I have done a lot of Still Life Paintings during the past few years. It is my sympathetic that still life paintings are the least likely to sell in galleries. My still life paintings are most often of arrangements of fruit. I had been doing some still life paintings just to keep working, while I was trying to figure. I spent some time in the studio at the weekend, and produced a few small still-life paintings. I love the proportion of these little canvases and still life creature my favorite’s subject - I just can't help myself! Still Life Paintings 

A still life is a work of art depicting inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, plants and natural substances like rocks) or man-made (drinking glasses, cigarettes, pipes, hotdogs and so on) in an artificial setting. Popular in Western art since the 17th century, still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the agreement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture. It was believed that the foodstuffs and other items depicted there would, in the afterlife, become real and available for use by the deceased. Similar paintings, more simply decorative in intent, have also been found in the Roman frescoes unearthed at Pompeii, Herculaneum and the Villa Illusion.

I have been able to paint and post as many of the small still life paintings as I'd hoped because for the last two months all of my time has been taken up with portraits for future exhibitions, which I will post in the next week or so. So far I've really enjoyed doing them and I can see that I could really benefit from the discipline, so I'll look forward to getting into the habit of doing them more regularly.All of my still life paintings are painted directly from the real thing, with photos only introduce late in the process if fruit is failing or flowers are drooping past the point where in sequence is still viable.
